“Esse Quam Videri” Is The State Motto? More Like “To Seem Rather Than To Be” – This Budget Proves That

There are many glaring examples of extreme intentional contradictions within in this new budget for the state of North Carolina.

Using a public narrative of “Kids First!” and fiscal responsibility, people like Phil Berger and Tim Moore have tried to divert attention away from the more subtle and nefarious that strengthen a very few rather than benefit the state as a whole.

Here are two.

Take the new “Parents’ Bill of Rights” just passed this summer.

Moore claims:

He wants transparency for parents.

Transparency that was already there.

Yet, within the crevices of the 600+ page budget written in secret without any debate, there is this:

To seem transparent rather than to be? Seems to be the case.

So charter schools are public, except when they are not public.
