Michele Morrow’s Ricky Bobby Moment – You Can’t Put Anyone First When You Put So Many Last

Interesting post from Michele Morrow on “X” yesterday.

Especially this part.

In the immortal words of Ricky Bobby:

So, Michele. Who is first?

What “Makeover Michele” is doing is using every dog-whistling, gas-lighting, Hail Mary ingredient in an electioneering word salad.

Actually, “Kids First!” is just an overused trite and empty two-word expression meant to polarize the public into an either/or fallacy: “if you are against what we want, then you are not for kids.” Just ask Tricia Cotham who has made it a personal mantra.

But what people like Morrow want is to simply take more funds from public coffers and steer them into the hands of private interests. Whether that means tripling the amount of money for a nontransparent voucher program, holding the budget hostage and halting nonrecurring funding for schools, or creating a highly partisan charter school advisory board to bypass the checks and balances of the State Board of Education, the claim that they are putting “Kids First!” is nothing more than a verbal veneer.

“Parents First?”

Teach any number of years in public schools and you will see there is no one entity that has as much of an influence over a public school decisions as parents. When parents get mad, parents call and show up to school board meetings. Just look at the last four years with the pandemic and look at some of those contentious school board meetings and witness who is the most vocal.

Bottom line is that Michele Morrow wants to put whomever she thinks can get her the job first. And what is happening is that she is putting our public schools last.

Oh, and that bit about “focusing our resources in better ways?” Morrow has never worked with a budget for a school system before. Much less stepped inside of an NC public school.
