One-Person, One-Vote?

Talk about the one-person, one-vote rule.

Some rural lawmakers are literally proposing to abolish that.

From the Winston-Salem Journal:

“In fact, if House Bill 234, titled “Little Federal Model NC Edition,” becomes law, Forsyth and Guilford could be joined to have just one senator, as well as Durham and Wake counties.

“The proposed legislation would further boost rural North Carolina’s control of the Senate given that residents in Durham, Forsyth, Guilford, Mecklenburg and Wake counties voted for 16 of the 20 Senate Democrats for the 2025-26 sessions. It would be possible, under HB234, that there could be as few as five to six Senate Democrats, while giving rural counties outsized representation.”

Just remember that these same lawmakers who are trying to keep voters from having a voice are the same who legislate the budget for public schools.

  1. I do not recognize this GOP. What can they be thinking? Talk about undemocratic and unconstitutional! They would be screaming to high heavens were this a proposal from the Democratic representatives.
