Tomorrow night the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners will be meeting for a scheduled “Budget Public Hearing” at 6:00.

No doubt that many WSFCS employees will be showing up to advocate for more money to be allocated locally for the public school system that has a mismanaged budget and a shortfall that will force over $35 million in cuts over the next fourteen months.
And the day before that meeting, the Winston-Salem Journal published this article in its “Business” section concerning the gap in pay between executives and its employees.

“The pay gap between chief executives and rank-and-file employees continued to mushroom during fiscal 2024, particularly among global apparel and equipment manufacturers, and a U.S. big-box retailer.“
The sum of the total compensation of the top three executives in this county would more than make up for the “huge” budget deficit that WSFCS. That’s also remembering that we live in a state that is literally trying to wipe out corporate taxes.

$45 million dollars for vouchers in Forsyth County over the last decade. Almost $20 million this year.
$45 million dollars in total compensation for the top three executives in Forsyth County last year.
And WSFCS has to find a way to cut another $13 million from its budget next fiscal year.

Where the hell are our priorities?
And this isn’t just a problem in this school system.
