About Cellphones In Class Next Year…

If you did not notice amongst all of the happenings in our world and with the endless stream of news and social media, Gov. Josh Stein signed into law yesterday a bill that may change the landscape of the North Carolina classroom in a very positive way for teachers and ultimately students.

From today’s Winston-Salem Journal:

That bill (HB959) can be found in its entirety here.

Here is the specific part of that bill dealing with devices in class.

Here is the part that this teacher wants very clear parameters about from my own district.

“The governing body shall establish the consequences for violations of the wireless communication policy, which may include confiscation of the wireless communication device and disciplinary measures under the public school unit’s Code of Student Conduct.”

For this to work, the school system must put into place clear, certain, and enforceable “disciplinary measures” that will reenforce the meaning of this bill and the LEA must support the authority of the teacher/educator/administrator in the school.
