Not ten minutes after hearing on various outlets how more assistant principals in our school system received notices for reduction in force, I see a neighborhood elementary student in her front yard with a lemonade stand and baked goods. It is not too uncommon still to see kids doing such things to raise money, sometimes for various causes.
And then I thought of every group and entity on my high school campus that has to already raise its own funds or supplement the costs of its needs.
Think of the band and how it has to replace instruments and uniforms and all of that traveling.
Think of the drama department and choral groups who produce and stage performances that usually sell out the auditorium.
Think of the yearbook and newspaper that has to sell ads to not only get the equipment to keep running, but to make sure people have access to their creations.
Think of every athletic team and its fundraisers. Uniforms aren’t cheap. And you have to pay the refs.
Think of every club that is trying to create opportunities for growth for all of its participants.
Think of the PTSA and all that it does in a school if there are parents who have the time.
