The Cruel Irony Of Labor Day In WSFCS

This is actually from the U.S. Dept. of Labor:

A day that should be spent by people working in the service of the community relaxing and renewing their energy was a day for many in WSFCS waiting to hear if they still had a job.

Specifically speaking, those who are Exceptional Children teachers and their assistants.

Multiple sources stated that at 3:30 yesterday afternoon, the WSFCS system sent out its latest emails to those who would be RIF’ed due to the latest cuts in the budget due to mismanagement.

There might not be another group of people in public school system who work as hard for the salary they make than EC teachers and their assistants. Their teaching assistants make much less and they are as vital. I have an EC child with an IEP whose most vital link to the school he attends is his EC teaching assistant.

Please remember that when the pandemic shut down school in 2020 and 2021 from regular in-person attendance, it was the EC population who were first allowed to come back into the schools. That meant EC teachers and EC teaching assistants were the first to come back full-time into the school buildings to navigate an incredibly tough terrain for students who rely on more services than a typical student.

And some of them just had a Labor Day they will not forget.
