Tomorrow in Greensboro, the West Forsyth Titan wrestling team will compete for its third straight dual-team championship.
And unlike the last two years in which the Titans went into the playoffs as a favorite, this year’s team has had to face a rather large amount of adversity, injuries, sickness, and a change in coaches.
In the last week, the Titans beat an undefeated Ragsdale team and avenged an earlier loss to Davie County.
In today’s Winston-Salem Journal Jay Spivey reported,
West Forsyth also stormed back after being down 20 points to Davie County in the regional semifinal before it won 32-30. Northwest Guilford (30-3) defeated Lake Norman 37-31 in the other semifinal at Davie (http://www.journalnow.com/sports/prepzone/west-forsyth-headed-back-to-rd-straight-state-dual-team/article_10d0bb70-88d4-5e23-aa6c-748a1f5e5313.html).
Down 20 points in a match and still win? That takes heart.
Huge heart.
Coach Jason Hooker put it best.
“It’s been a very tough year for wrestling in our area in general,” Titans’ first-year coach Jason Hooker said.
“Our kids went through a lot of adversity,” Hooker said. “They fought through and they’ve persevered, and they’ve done the right things.”
It’s the “done the right things” that stands out the most.
And it’s not just the wrestlers who have done the right things. Sounds like the coach did the right things too.
