In a state where there exists a supermajority in one chamber of the NC General Assembly and nearly another in the other chamber all while there is a governor from the opposite political party, then you know there’s some gerrymandering.
And it also means that many public school teachers and advocates are still voting for people who do not treat public education very well.

Can you name another state that freezes teacher pay for ten years?
Here is the salary schedule that is in place for the 2024-2025 school year.

For those who are not teachers, make sure to pay attention to years 15-24.

And why doesn’t that salary schedule above say 2025-2026 and not 2024-2025? That’s because we are the only state that has not passed a new budget for this year.

It means we revert back to the previous year’s salary schedule.
And teachers no longer get longevity pay as other state employees do.
Similar to an annual bonus, this is something that all state employees in North Carolina — except, now, for teachers — gain as a reward for continued service. The 2014 budget permanently rolled that money into “teachers’ salaries” and labeled it as a raise.

These are great data points. Thanks for sharing them! Your work is much appreciated!
