And yes, Barr was an educator in the public schools. He highlights that on his campaign website.
But that time was well before the pandemic – well before the financial crisis in WSFCS in which he was a member of the fschool board.
He was an educator when teachers received longevity pay, due-process rights, and graduate degree pay.
He was an educator when the state passed budgets every year with step increases in teacher pay.
He was an educator when schools had testing labs and there were enough EC teachers to serve all students who had IEPs and 504s.
That was a long time ago.
For eight of the last twelve years, he has been on the local school board.
When the state audit of the WSFCS finances was released in response to the budget crisis of 2025, it combed through years of financial statements.
What was found was not a one time incident that set the district astray, but a series of mistakes that compounded upon each other to create this storm of a deficit.
2017 is eight years ago. Three years before the pandemic. Four superintendents ago. Three school boards ago. Four Chief Financial Officers ago. And lots of turnover.
