CARES stands for the “Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act.” North Carolina received a little more than $2 billion dollars in this bill.

This week Newsweek published an op-ed from two professors of education at Bucknell University concerning how Betsy DeVos is handling how monies from the CARES act is being distributed.

“DeVos made her intentions plain last month, when she directed public schools to share with private and religious schools more of the funding available to them through the CARES Act. The idea behind this money is to shore up public school budgets during the pandemic.”

It is worth the read to see how the “Dolores Umbridge” of our time is trying to take advantage of this pandemic to further privatize public education.
